Physical Therapy 96.5 (2016): 597-608. Academic Search Complete. Web. 6 Nov. 2016. Annotation: (Describe ALL info. that might be important for your paper. Explain to the reader and/or summarize what might be found in this source) 35 pts A trial was done to determine whether veterans with knee Osteoarthritis should do group physical therapy or individual physical therapy. Three hundred and twenty patients from the VA Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, were randomly assigned either group physical therapy or individual physical therapy. Both included instruction in home exercise, joint protection techniques, and individual physical therapy evaluations. Based on two different outcome measures, the scores between the arms of the veterans were always lower within group physical therapy over the span of twenty-four weeks. Group physical therapy was not more effective for primary and secondary study outcomes. Potential Quotes: (Are there any significant quotes you can use or paraphrase from this source?) 15 pts “The primary outcome measure was the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC; range=0-96, higher scores indicate worse symptoms), measured at baseline, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks”(page 7). “The secondary outcome measure was the Short Physical Performance Batter}' (SPPB; range=0-12, higher scores indicate better performance), measured at baseline and 12 weeks”(page 7). “Linear mixed models assessed the difference in WOMAC scores between arms”(page 7). Assessment: (Analyze and explain why this source is credible) 15 pts Galileo is a very credible website that our teacher recommended to use. This article is also part of an academic journal written by several authors who all were held accountable for one another according to their facts and information. Reflection: (How will you potentially use it?) 25 pts I will eventually use all the data I have gathered to create my capstone project. I will be able to use many quotes and statistics from the article I have chosen to write a well written research paper. This source on veterans with knee osteoarthritis relates to my potential research for my project because I needed a topic related to physical therapy. The veterans surveyed had individual and group physical therapy to see which one was the better option. This source was very helpful since it gave the trials and errors from two real life surveys. It gave factual reasons for why individual therapy was the better option. I can use this source in my research paper to explain the importance of individual physical therapy over group physical therapy. This article was written from information gained from two different colleges and is considered an academic journal which makes it very credible. This source gives many quotes and statistic that I will eventually be able to use in my research paper to back up my opinions. Lauren Tymchuk Source #____ Bibliography (MLA or APA) Svege, Ida, et al. Explain to the reader and/or summarize what might be found in this source) -exercise provides the most benefits -isn’t as effective without patient education -self-reported function was not reflected by beneficial results for ROM, muscle strength, physical fitness, and walking capacity -exercise with patient education resulted in the least amount of pain out of all the patient groups Potential Quotes: (Are there any significant quotes you can use or paraphrase from this source?) - “All participants attended a patient education program consisting of 3 group meetings led by 2 physical therapists” -”Two other physical therapists were responsible for providing the exercise therapy program, consisting of 2 or 3 weekly sessions of strengthening, functional, and stretching exercises over 12 weeks” -”Both interventions were conducted at a sports medicine clinic” -”exercise in addition to patient education resulted in less pain during walking in the long term” Assessment: (Analyze and explain why this source is credible) -academic journal -galileo -website ends in .edu -American Physical Therapy Association -doctors and scientists conducted research Reflection (not the summary): (How will you potentially use it?) -learned how important exercise is -learned that exercise alone isn’t all a patient needs -learned about recovery times for this specific injury with different age groups -capstone project -my paper -research Sample Graphic Organizer of an Annotated Bibliography Source / Bibliography (MLA format) Ciccarelli, Sheryl, and Marie Rose Napierkowski, eds."A Tale of Two Cities." Novels for Students. Vol. 15. Detroit: Gale, 1999. Summary/Annotation (Explain to the reader and/or summarize what was found in the source) The book contains different discussions of various novels. The section on A Tale of Two Cities focuses on historical background, themes, characters, and settings. At the end of each section, various critics discuss the novel…(There will be more here, but this is an example). Potential Quotes (Are there any significant quotes you can use from this source?) Be sure to put the quotes in here with quotation marks and page numbers. Assessment (Why is it credible?) The book is published by Gale Research Group, a company with a reputation for using professors and academic writers. The collection of books is also credible because my teacher recommended it, and it is found in the reference section of the school library. Reflection (How will you use it?) I will use the explanations and examples of the themes of death and resurrection in my research paper; however, I will support this information by using quotes from my primary source. I also found one critic at the end of the section who gave good information for my introductory paragraph… From this article, I was able to conclude that exercise provides the most benefits from receiving an injury. Patients have to be educated about their injuries and about their recovery plans for their progress to be the most effective. The most important quotation was ”exercise in addition to patient education resulted in less pain during walking in the long term.” We know this article is credible because of the website it comes from and because of its publication by the American Physical Therapy Association. I was able to learn how exercise alone isn’t all a patient needs for the fastest recovery. I will potentially use this article for research in my capstone project. I will be able to have a well written paper concerning specific recovery times for specific age groups. Name: Source #____ Bibliography (MLA or APA) 10 pts Hanratty, Catherine E., et al. "Physical Therapists' Perceptions And Use Of Exercise In The Management Of Subacromial Shoulder Impingement Syndrome: Focus Group Study." Physical Therapy 96.9 (2016): 1354. Advanced Placement Source. Web. 22 Jan. 2017. Annotation: (Describe ALL info. that might be important for your paper. Explain to the reader and/or summarize what might be found in this source) 35 pts The study objective was to investigate physical therapists' perceptions and experiences regarding the use of exercise in the treatment of patients with SAIS. Therapists emphasized the need for individually tailored exercises, including: scapular stabilization; rotator cuff, lower trapezius, and serratus anterior muscle strengthening; and anterior shoulder and pectoralis minor muscle stretching. -quality over quantity in exercises -exercise is the most important part of recovery Potential Quotes: (Are there any significant quotes you can use or paraphrase from this source?) 15 pts “Quality of exercise performance was deemed more important than the number of repetitions that the patients performed.” “Experienced musculoskeletal physical therapists believe that exercise is central in treating patients with SAIS and that gaining patient buy-in to its importance, patient education, promoting self-management, and postural advice are central to the successful treatment of people with SAIS.” -page 8 Assessment: (Analyze and explain why this source is credible) 15 pts -from an academic journal -property of the American Physical Therapy Association -Galileo is a very credible website, and we can tell because it ends in .edu and backs up all of its information with sources. Reflection: (How will you potentially use it?) 25 pts -in my capstone project -to further my research on physical therapy techniques -help me figure out why exercises help strengthen injured muscles to bring them back to full recovery Hanratty, Catherine E., et al. "Physical Therapists' Perceptions And Use Of Exercise In The Management Of Subacromial Shoulder Impingement Syndrome: Focus Group Study." Physical Therapy 96.9 (2016): 1354. Advanced Placement Source. Web. 22 Jan. 2017. This bibliography was for a source describing a shoulder syndrome and ways for recovery through physical therapy. It went further in depth on how physical therapists perceived this syndrome and how they saw fit to treat it. Therapists used different techniques depending on the affected areas. They figured out that the quality of the exercises they had the patients doing were more beneficial than the amount of exercises they had them doing. This is shown when one of the therapists stated, “Quality of exercise performance was deemed more important than the number of repetitions that the patients performed.” Because this source was from an academic journal, I found it very credible. The therapists that did the research were from the American Physical Therapy Association. Galileo, in general, is a reliable source to use because it ends in .edu and backs up all of its information. I will use this source in my capstone project and as I am furthering my research on physical therapy techniques. It has helped me and will continue to help me figure out the more beneficial exercises for patients with this specific syndrome. |
